Petrol-diesel demand in India: Petrol sales in the country increased in August, but the demand for diesel continues to decline. The reason for this is due to rain in many parts of the country, demand is affected in some areas. According to preliminary industry data, petrol sales (petrol demand in India August 2022) increased by 5.8 per cent to 28.1 lakh tonnes in August, while it declined by five per cent to 26.6 lakh tonnes in July. According to the news of PTI, the data shows that the consumption of petrol is about 16 percent as compared to August, 2021 and 31.7 percent more than that of August, 2020. Petrol consumption in August 2020 was 21.4 lakh tonnes. This is 20.6 percent more than the pre-pandemic ie 23.3 lakh tonnes of August 2019.
Impact on demand due to diesel due to monsoon rains
According to the news, the consumption of diesel, the most widely used fuel, declined by 4.9 percent to 61.1 lakh tonnes in the month under review, from 64.2 lakh tonnes in July. The demand for diesel has been affected due to monsoon rains. Traditionally, consumption is less in July-September than in April-June. With the movement of rains, the demand in the agricultural sector also decreases. Diesel demand had declined by 13.1 percent in July.
Diesel consumption on yearly basis
Diesel consumption in August (diesel demand in India August 2022) is 23.5 percent higher on a year-on-year basis. At the same time, it is 43.4 percent more than the 42.6 lakh tonnes of August 2020. Whereas it is 11.6 percent more than the 54.8 lakh tonnes of pre-Kovid i.e. August, 2019. Earlier, the consumption of diesel had increased in the month of June. With the increase in movement in the aviation sector, the demand for aircraft fuel (Petrol-diesel demand in India) more than doubled to 5,41,000 tonnes in August as compared to the previous month. This is 51.4 per cent higher than the corresponding month of last year and 118.9 per cent over August, 2020, however, it is 14.3 per cent lower than the pre-covid level in August, 2019.
LPG sales up 5 percent
According to the data, the sale of LPG, LPG, grew five percent year-on-year in August to 2.44 million tonnes. It is 7 percent higher than August, 2020 and 2.5 percent more than August, 2019. On a monthly basis, the demand for LPG was less by one percent. In July this year, the demand for this fuel stood at 24.6 lakh tonnes.
